Kickoff Visioning Workshop Maine College of Engineering, Computing, and Information Science
The Maine College of Engineering, Computing, and Information Science (MCECIS) is one of the four initiatives of the Harold Alfond Foundation UMS Transforms Grant. MCECIS is proposed to be a “statewide, integrated solution to providing the technical workforce and innovations that are critical to moving Maine’s economy forward”. We need your input to determine the vision for this new college. Broad input from industry, practicing technical professionals, community, and educators is critical. This will start with a Kickoff Visioning Workshop on January 21, 2021, 9:00 AM – Noon. The workshop will be hosted via zoom. It will feature:
- Remarks by Chancellor Daniel Malloy, President Joan Ferrini-Mundy, President Glenn Cummings, Governor Janet Mills (invited), and Harold Alfond Foundation CEO and President Greg Powell (invited)
- Overview of demand for engineers, computer, and information scientists in Maine
- Panel discussion of diversity in engineering, computing, and information science
- Two breakout sessions to gather YOUR ideas for the vision for MCECIS
- First session will have comprehensive focus
- Second session will focus on these themes:
- Governance and organization
- Undergraduate programs
- Graduate programs and research
- Fundraising and industrial outreach and support
- Pathways to degree programs from K-12, community college, and across the UMS
