  • If your score is a 4+, you have the option to either select Calculus 1 or move on to the subsequent course.
  • MAT 126 (Calculus I) – This is the first mathematics course in engineering education and all new students will be automatically registered in this course in the first semester unless the UMaine Math Placement Test – Step 3 has not been passed. Students who have a passing grade in AP MAB or an equivalent course from another institution have the option of advancing to MAT 127. It is student’s responsibility to ensure that the AP grades have been submitted to UMaine.

MAT 127 (Calculus II) – All students will register for this course in the second semester. Students who have a passing grade in AP MBC or an equivalent course from another institution have the option of advancing to MAT 228.

  • Advancing to Higher Level Chemistry Course

  • CHY 121/123 or CHY 131/133– These chemistry courses are required for all engineering majors except for Computer Engineering. Students who have a passing grade in AP CH or an equivalent course from another institution have the option of advancing to a higher level chemistry course (CHY 122/124), if required by their majors.

Depending on the AP grade, a student may receive credits for both CHY 121/123 and CHY 122/124.

  • Advancing to Higher Level Physics Course

  • PHY 121 – This physics course is required for all engineering majors and is normally taken in the first or second semester of the first year. A student with a passing grade in AP PHCM or an equivalent course from another institution has the option of advancing to PHY 122.

PHY 122 – This physics course is required by all engineering majors. A student with a passing grade in AP PHCE or an equivalent course from another institution has the option of advancing to PHY 122.
