MCEC Dean to Deliver Plenary Talk at International Health Workshop
Dean Giovanna Guidoboni of the Maine College of Engineering and Computing will deliver a plenary talk at the Mathematics for Our Health (M4H) Workshop, scheduled for Nov. 7-8 at Politecnico di Milano in Milan, Italy. Her presentation, “From the Blackboard to the Clinic: Combining Mechanism-Driven and Data-Driven Models for Personalized Medicine,” will explore how integrated modeling techniques can advance personalized care in fields such as glaucoma, cardiovascular health and lower urinary tract function. The approach combines physics-based and data-driven models to improve diagnostics and treatment precision.
The M4H Workshop brings together global leaders in mathematics, data science and medical research to address healthcare challenges through computational models. In addition to Guidoboni, plenary speakers include Tianxi Cai, professor of biomedical informatics at Harvard Medical School; Hector Gomez, professor in the School of Mechanical Engineering at Purdue University; Alex Leow, professor of psychiatry and bioengineering at the University of Illinois Chicago; and Thomas Yankeelov, professor and director of the Center for Computational Oncology at the University of Texas at Austin. Each speaker will present on their latest research in applying data science to optimize health outcomes.
Throughout the workshop, experts will examine innovations in precision medicine, resource allocation and multimodal patient data analysis. Presentations will focus on how mathematical and computational techniques can drive advancements across the medical field, with topics ranging from early diagnostics to personalized treatment strategies, offering attendees insights into cutting-edge models and interdisciplinary approaches that improve patient care.
