Getting Started
For general information on the graduate admission process and application material, contact the University of Maine Graduate School. Graduate degrees in engineering and computing are normally required for those who wish to pursue careers in research, teaching, or wish to add the breadth and depth provided by the master’s degree to advance to professional-level positions much earlier in their careers. We also recommend that all students achieving a 3.0 grade point average or above in their undergraduate program should pursue, at a minimum, a one year 30 credit professional course work master’s degree.
Consult with each engineering and computing department and the University of Maine Graduate School for more information on Graduate degrees in the Maine College of Engineering and Computing.
The Maine College of Engineering and Computing graduate students and faculty are engaged in a wide array of research projects ranging from basic and fundamental knowledge explorations to very practical and applied investigations. For a review of research opportunities available in each department, explore our college research links. For information on applying for research and teaching assistantships, consult the departments or faculty members with which you are most interested in working.
Assessment of whether a research or teaching assistantship will be offered to a graduate student requires first the submission of a complete and documented application for admission. After evaluating received graduate applications, most graduate assistantship offers are made by individual departments or research units. These units typically nominate as well their accepted applicants for any available university-wide assistantships. Graduate students should also fully avail themselves of the services of the Office of Student Financial Aid.
