Biography
Dr. Wang is an Assistant Professor in the School of Computing and Information Science at the University of Maine. He joined the department in 2025. He directs the Spatial Info-Telligence (SIT) Lab.
Research Topics
Dr. Wang’s research covers a wide range of topics in the intersection of artificial intelligence and spatial computing, especially in the context of geographical information science (GIS). He is particularly focused on the information-theoretical foundations of GeoAI—how to appropriately represent, process, and understand geographical information within the modern AI framework.
His recent interests include:
- Spatial information theory for GeoAI
- Principles of spatial foundation models (scaling laws, platonic representations, etc.)
- (Geo)spatial representation learning
- Applied GeoAI to forestry, earth science, ecology, remote sensing, and urban studies
- Knowledge graphs
